Manchester United defender Phil Jones signs new deal until 2023

Manchester United defender Phil Jones has signed a new contract, the club have confirmed.

The England centre-back has signed a new deal that will keep him at Old Trafford until at least 2023 with the option of another season.

"I am delighted to have signed a new contract," Jones said. "Manchester United has been a big part of my life for eight years and I love everything about this club. I am excited about the challenges that lie ahead of us as we prepare for a very busy period in the season. I would like to thank Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] and the coaching staff for their continued support in my development."

The 26-year-old has passed 200 appearances for United after arriving from Blackburn as a teenager in 2011. He joins Luke Shaw, Chris Smalling and Anthony Martial in signing a new long-term deal and caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says it shows the club is planning for the future.

"It's a signal for the players we believe in them and for the supporters that we plan ahead," said Solskjaer. "Phil has been there for so long, he's won the Premier League, other trophies, he knows what it takes. He's been here so long so it's he knows what it takes for us to move up the table. Phil knows what it takes to be a Manchester United player."
