MANCHESTER, England -- Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo has been dealt a set-back in his comeback from injury after limping off on his return for the under-23s.
The defender was substituted after 54 minutes of the 1-1 draw with Reading at Old Trafford on Friday night and headed straight down the tunnel with doctor Tony Gill after being replaced by Regan Poole.
Jose Mourinho had suggested at a news conference earlier in the day that Rojo would be considered for the first-team if he completed 90 minutes.
It is a blow for the 28-year-old, who last played a competitive game in Argentina's defeat to France at the World Cup on June 30 and last appeared for United's first team in the 1-0 win over Watford on May 13.
Rojo was limited to just 12 appearances last season after recovering from knee surgery. He spent seven months on the sidelines after suffering ligament damage in a Europa League tie against Anderlecht in April 2017.
There was better news, however, for Diogo Dalot, who lasted 90 minutes two weeks after playing 78 minutes for the U23s against Stoke.
The 19-year-old, a summer signing from Porto, could now be in line to travel with the senior team to Switzerland on Tuesday ahead of the Champions League tie with Young Boys on Wednesday.
Josh Bohui scored United's goal as the U23s came from a goal down to draw with Reading. It was enough to maintain an unbeaten start in Premier League 2 Division 2 for Ricky Sbragia's side.
