David De Gea, Nemanja Matic set for Manchester United's U.S. tour - sources

LOS ANGELES -- Manchester United are hopeful David De Gea and Nemanja Matic will join up with the squad in the United States before glamour friendlies against AC Milan, Liverpool and Real Madrid, sources have told ESPN FC.

The pair were not on the flight from Manchester to Los Angeles on Sunday evening after being granted time off by manager Jose Mourinho following the World Cup.

But after both Serbia and Spain made early exits in Russia -- Serbia in the group stages and Spain in the round of 16 -- De Gea and Matic are expected to link up with their teammates next week. Players are given a minimum of three weeks off after a major tournament. Serbia's last game in Russia was on June 27 while Spain were knocked out on July 1. Marcos Rojo could also join up with the squad in America after Argentina exited in the round of 16 on June 30.

United kick off their five-game tour of the U.S. with a game against Club America in Phoenix on Thursday before facing San Jose Earthquakes in Santa Clara on Sunday. Their first fixture of the International Champions Cup is against AC Milan in Los Angeles the following Wednesday.

The arrival of De Gea and Matic should add some star quality to United's squad after Alexis Sanchez's arrival was delayed because of visa issues. Sources have told ESPN FC that club chiefs are still in the dark about when the Chilean will be allowed to fly out. Sanchez is training at Carrington with staff who have not gone on tour while the problem is resolved.
