Sergio Romero hopeful he will get more games at Man United

Sergio Romero is hoping Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho will show the same faith in him this season as he did during the last campaign.

Romero, 30, made 18 appearances last term, including in the Europa League final victory over Ajax in May, making it his most prolific season since making 33 appearances for Sampdoria in 2012-13.

The Argentina international is still behind established No. 1 David De Gea in the United pecking order, but has signed a new contract that will keep him at the club until at least 2021.

"I don't know what is going to happen [regarding who starts]," he told the Daily Mirror. "We will get to know before each match who is going to start as normal, but we will work hard and the minutes that I get, I will try to take advantage of them.

"I am thankful for the confidence that the manager has given me and last year he had a lot of faith in me and the results showed that. We won the Europa League and I didn't concede many goals.

"It's a situation I look at with calmness and this year I hope to have the same confidence levels so I can respond in the same way."

The goalkeeper was never on the losing side for United last season and conceded just six goals in 1,650 minutes of football.
