Manchester United XI to take on Class of 92-owned Salford in friendly

Manchester United will send a team to play Salford City this summer, the non-league side have announced.

A United XI will play Salford, owned by former United players Gary Neville, Phil Neville, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs, at Moor Lane on July 19 as part of their preseason programme.

The team will likely include a mixture of under-23 and under-18 players with the fixture scheduled a day before the first team face Manchester City in Houston in the International Champions Cup.

The Nevillles, Butt, Scholes and Giggs, all members of United's Class of 92, have owned Salford since 2014.

They have overseen promotions from the Northern Premier League to the Conference North.

Last season they were beaten in the playoffs for a place in the National League, the fifth tier of English football and just one step away from the Football League.

A United XI played Salford in a friendly last summer and ran out 5-1 winners.

Dean Henderson, James Wilson and Scott McTominay are featured with Wilson, Josh Harrop (2), Tosin Kehinde and Demetri Mitchell getting the goals.

United's first team are set to play seven preseason friendlies this summer, including five on the tour of the United States which begins on July 9.
