Jose Mourinho on touchline ban: Should be 'same rules for everyone'

Jose Mourinho has demanded "the same rules for everyone" after serving his second touchline ban of the season as Manchester United manager.

Mourinho will return to the dugout when United face Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday after accepting a charge of improper conduct having been sent off for kicking a water bottle during the Premier League home draw with West Ham last weekend.

The former Chelsea manager, banned for one match for verbally abusing referee Mark Clattenburg last month, served his second touchline ban when he watched the EFL Cup victory over West Ham on Wednesday from his Old Trafford office.

But while he accepted he had been wrong to kick the water bottle, Mourinho insisted officials and the Football Association must be even-handed in dealing with other managers who cross the line.

"The only thing I would like would be the same rules for everyone," he said.

"Let's go back to the last one. I kick a bottle of water. I cannot do it. If I do it, then it's a sending off. After that there is a punishment.

"I accept that's a sending off and, in fact, if you see the images when the referee comes across, I don't say a word of complaint.

"I accept the suspension of one match and it's as simple as that. But it has to be the same for every manager. It has to be the same."

Mourinho was banned for one game and fined £16,000 after accepting the charge of improper conduct following the league encounter with the Hammers.
