Jose Mourinho watches Man United's 0-0 draw with Burnley from stands

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho had to watch the second half of his side's 0-0 draw at home to Burnley from the directors' box after appearing to be sent off by referee Mark Clattenburg.

Mourinho's side were unable to find a breakthrough in the first half of their match, and he was reportedly enraged by Clattenburg's decision not to award a penalty following a challenge on Matteo Darmian just before half-time.

The Portuguese emerged after the interval to take up a seat in the area behind the dugout before eventually moving to the directors' box close to Graeme Jones, the first assistant coach of Belgium under Roberto Martinez, and Sammy Lee, assistant coach to Gareth Southgate as interim manager of England.

Clattenburg reduced United to 10 men after the break when he dismissed Ander Herrera for a second yellow card in the 68th minute.

Mourinho did not attend the postmatch news conference, instead sending assistant manager Rui Faria to face the press. Faria said he did not know what had happened for Mourinho to watch the second half from the stands.

The former Chelsea boss was last week charged with misconduct by the Football Association for his comments about referee Anthony Taylor prior to the goalless draw at Liverpool.
