Man United's Jose Mourinho: Title race too unpredictable to place money on it

Jose Mourinho has said that it would be a "big risk" to bet on who will win the Premier League title or finish in the top four this season because he expects unpredictability and a season that goes down to the wire.

The leading sides in the division are bunched together tightly with eight games having been played. Manchester City and Arsenal sit at the top with 19 points, but Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, Chelsea, Everton and Manchester United all follow closely behind.

When asked if there can be six or seven teams in the title race come the end of the season, Mourinho told a news conference: "There can be -- other teams can steal points -- but it will probably not be six, but three. I'm not a gambler, but I wouldn't bet a lot of money on the title or on the top four. It is a big risk."

As things stand, City and Arsenal are on 19 points, while United -- down in seventh place -- are on 14 points. United face Chelsea on Sunday, having already had tough tests in the league against City, losing 2-1, and Liverpool, drawing 0-0.

"The distances are so short," Mourinho said. "A team wins three in a row and is in the top three or four. A team has a bad run of just a couple of results and goes outside the top four. Some teams are having easier fixtures.

"But it's going to be tight. Probably there will be one team who you think are playing for the title in March -- and then in May they are not in the top four."
