Juventus agreement kept Paul Pogba from joining Chelsea - Mino Raiola

Jose Mourinho's pursuit of Paul Pogba last season was thwarted by an agreement between Juventus and the French midfielder's agent, says Mino Raiola.

Pogba joined Manchester United -- and Mourinho -- this summer for a world-record fee of €105 million, and has been backed by many to star in the Red Devils' midfield for many years to come.

However, the Portuguese boss -- who was then in charge at Chelsea -- had made a move to bring the 23-year-old to Stamford Bridge the previous year, Raiola told Rai Sport.

"Paul could have left [Juventus] last year because [Jose] Mourinho -- then at Chelsea -- really wanted him," Raiola, who serves as Pogba's agent, said on Thursday.

"But Juventus and I had agreement: win the league title and the Champions League, then he can go."

While the Bianconeri lifted their fifth straight Scudetto title last season, they fell short in the Champions League, where elimination to Bayern Munich ended their campaign in the round of 16.

Since joining United, Pogba has suffered through an uneven start to life at Old Trafford as Mourinho searches for a role that best suits his abilities.

Manchester United have endured an inconsistent Premier League campaign, losing two of their first six matches, and currently sit in sixth place.
