Nani backs Wayne Rooney to find his top form again for Man United

Nani has offered his support to his former teammate Wayne Rooney during the Manchester United attacker's struggles this season.

Rooney has scored just once so far this campaign following a move to the midfield under Jose Mourinho.

He's only three goals behind Sir Bobby Charlton for United's all-time record, and Valencia striker Nani says there are still good days ahead for the 30-year-old.

"Rooney is a special player. Strong, fantastic quality, shooting, vision -- very intelligent," Nani told Omnisport.

"I enjoyed playing with him. He is a player who is a big part of Man United. He has chance to improve that and build his story.

"If he continues to play at high level he can become the best there."

Nani also said he did not expect Paul Pogba to return to Old Trafford following a very successful tenure with Juventus, but he was glad after the world-record move was completed this summer.

"I'm a bit surprised that Pogba went back," Nani said. "A lot of clubs wanted him, there were rumours that other clubs would get him.

"When he went back I was happy. He knows the club well and will be a star at the club."
