Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard set for new contract - source

Jesse Lingard is in advanced talks over a new deal, sources close to Manchester United have told ESPN FC.

Midfielder Lingard, who started Saturday's 2-1 Manchester derby defeat to City but was substituted at half-time, has two years to run on his current deal.

United are keen to tie the 23-year-old -- who scored the winning goal in the FA Cup final victory over Crystal Palace last season -- to a new long-term contract.

Talks over a new deal have been ongoing for several weeks, and United are confident of finalising matters soon.

Lingard, who came through the ranks at Old Trafford, spent loan spells at Leicester, Birmingham and Brighton before establishing himself as a regular in the United side last season.

The attacking midfielder started this season brightly, scoring in the Community Shield win over Leicester City, but injury saw him miss the start of the new Premier League campaign before his return against City.
