Bastian Schweinsteiger still in firing line at Manchester United - source

Bastian Schweinsteiger remains a player Manchester United do not intend to keep, despite reports from Germany that the midfielder is set to stay at the club, a source has told ESPN FC.

Sport 1 in Germany reported on Monday that Schweinsteiger, who has a contract at the club for another two years, will not be leaving. United manager Mourinho, though, has left the player out of all of his preseason and matchday squads so far and reportedly sent him to train with the under-23 players.

On Aug. 4, Slovenian world players' union member Dejan Stefanovic accused Mourinho of "bullying" the German and said that the United manager should be jailed, but he later apologised to the Portuguese.

Should Schweinsteiger decide to stay, rather than arrange a transfer away from the club, then United would have to try to negotiate a settlement to terminate his contract. The 32-year-old German has shown no signs of outward dissent, posting pictures of himself smiling at United games, watching from the stands, on his official Twitter account.

United's summer signings of Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan have made Schweinsteiger's prospects of featuring in the first team seem even more remote.
