Gary Neville dismisses talk of Manchester United return

Gary Neville insists he will not be taking a job on Jose Mourinho's coaching staff at Manchester United.

Neville resigned as a coach of the England national team following Euro 2016, and was also sacked as Valencia at the end of March, but he wants to focus on other interests rather than make an immediate return to football.

"That's not going to happen," he said, of the potential of linking up with United, in an interview with the Sunday Times. "Before I went to Valencia, I created or owned four or five major projects and good businesses. I need to concentrate on them."

Between 1995 and 2007 Neville made 85 appearances for England and was a part of Roy Hodgson's coaching team for three major international tournaments, and he believes Sam Allardyce will inherit the raw ingredients for success.

"I've been an England player or coach in eight tournaments and the fall-out from this one is no different, but that group of players will achieve," Neville said. "Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Adam Lallana, John Stones, Ross Barkley, Jordan Henderson and Raheem Sterling, Jack Wilshere, Chris Smalling, Danny Rose, Kyle Walker, Danny Welbeck. I believe they'll do well without ripping up the DNA and starting again.

"I'll never lose hope they'll get it right, that our time will come, even though I won't be involved. There is no magic wand, just as there hasn't been for 50 years.

"I'd like to wish Sam Allardyce all the very best. He will get a good group of professionals. I've seen unhappiness in previous England squads. The current lads are happy, they just need to be more ruthless, to overcome those moments which crop up in tournaments. They have to start going England's way, those moments which kill you in football matches if they don't."
