Jose Mourinho to bring 'instant success' to Man United - Guus Hiddink

Jose Mourinho can bring "instant success" to Manchester United, according to Guus Hiddink, who succeeded him at Chelsea.

Mourinho left his role as Chelsea manager in December 2015 with the club in 16th position and just a point above the relegation zone. Hiddink then took charge until the end of the season, reviving the club's fortunes as they managed a top-half finish by ending in 10th place, 13 points clear of the relegation zone.

In February, early in the Dutchman's temporary reign at Chelsea, midfielder John Obi Mikel commented that Hiddink had been communicating better than Mourinho.

Despite the problems that Mourinho had at that club though, the former Netherlands coach talked up the Portuguese and believes the targets will be high at United next season.

"Mourinho is a coach who can deliver a performance, a success, an instant success," Hiddink told BBC 5 Live.

"The competition is tough in England especially, but big clubs have to be there in the top three, top four, always."
