Marouane Fellaini 'has to control himself better' - Louis van Gaal

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal said that midfielder Marouane Fellaini must learn to control himself after the Belgian was banned for the rest of the Premier League season.

The FA punished Fellaini with a three-game ban for throwing an arm at Leicester City's Robert Huth, who was also punished for that length of time for pulling the United player's hair.

Fellaini, however, will be back in consideration for the FA Cup final against Crystal Palace on May 21.

The United manager is also unhappy with referee Michael Oliver, saying that he was disappointed that the official missed seeing Huth's conduct during the 1-1 draw on Sunday.

Speaking in his news conference on Thursday, Van Gaal said: "We haven't appealed because the reaction of Fellaini is like a human being. And when the FA gives Huth a suspension of three matches then they admit it was a penalty and I have said it also after the match.

"So for us, it is very disappointing that the referee was not seeing the fact and I still believe Fellaini makes a reaction like a human being.

"But he has to control himself better, that is true. But, when you grab somebody in his hair, this situation shall always exist."

The former Everton midfielder will miss Premier League games against Norwich City, West Ham United and Bournemouth. It means he will end the season how he started it, having began the campaign by serving a three-match ban for stamping on Hull City's Paul McShane in the final game of the season before.

When United face Norwich, they will be looking to make amends for losing 2-1 against the strugglers during a torrid December. Alex Neil's team will again be desperate for a result, as they look to get away from the relegation zone.

Van Gaal said: "It is always difficult to fight against a team who fights to maintain they're place in the Premier League. That is no excuse, we have to cope with that.

"They won at our home, in Old Trafford, so we have to take revenge. It shall be a very tough game, but in spite of that we have to win."

Discussing the need to improve their away form, he said: "We have to win three games in a row, two away. We don't win too many away games.

"We are second best in home wins, after Leicester, and 10th in away matches. When we want to be a champion, we have to improve in the away matches, and win first away against Norwich and then West Ham United."
