Manchester United's Tim Fosu-Mensah: Central role best for me

Manchester United's Tim Fosu-Mensah thinks that playing in a central role could give him his best chance of success in the future.

Fosu-Mensah,18, has shown his versatility, having already played for the first team at left-back, right-back and centre-back.

He has made seven appearances in the Premier League and one in the FA Cup, having come on for his debut as a 55th-minute substitute in the 3-2 win over Arsenal on Feb. 28.

He had started his career as a schoolboy striker but developed into a centre-back, which was his position when United signed him. United's under-18s team used him in a holding midfield role though, and he has also been tried at No.10 for the U21s.

Fosu-Mensah was asked by the club's official website about what his best position could be and he replied: "It's a difficult question. I think I'll just be keeping my options open. Centre-back or midfield, I think that is the most chance. However, as I've said before, wherever the manager wants me, I will play there."

He thinks that gaining experience in different positions has helped his all-round game as a full-back. Fosu-Mensah said: "As an attacking midfielder, you come into positions where you have to think and think as an attacking player as well. When you go back to being a defender, it helps you think how attackers think -- about where they're moving to and what they have to do before they receive the ball. So it definitely helps your game when you play in other positions.

"I think, when you're young, it's important you can play in as many positions as you can so, wherever the manager wants you to play, you have more experience in every role."
