Adnan Januazaj, Guillermo Varela injured in Man United under-21 match

Manchester United's injury problems got worse as Adnan Januzaj limped off in their under-21 team's 7-0 thrashing of Norwich.

The Belgian departed before half-time with a suspected hamstring problem, which he tried and failed to run off.

And United also lost Uruguayan defender Guillermo Varela, who became the fifth injured full-back at Old Trafford.

Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo, Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young are all already sidelined.

Januzaj is yet to start for United since returning after an unsuccessful loan spell at Borussia Dortmund came to a premature end.

The Belgian, who never began a Bundesliga game for Dortmund, has made one substitute appearance for United since coming back and now he faces the prospect of a spell out.

Striker Will Keane scored four times to take his tally to nine goals in four second-string games to put United 5-0 up.

Two were created by Memphis Depay, who made a positive impression the day after he was partly to blame for Chelsea's equaliser in the 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge.

The Dutchman, who has not started since the Boxing Day defeat to Stoke, was watched by manager Louis van Gaal.

He also saw defender Phil Jones, who has been out since the win over Swansea on Jan. 2, make his return as he played for 58 minutes.

The England centre-back could be in contention for a first-team comeback against Sunderland on Saturday.

Second-choice goalkeeper Sergio Romero also figured for Warren Joyce's team, along with defender Paddy McNair, while Andreas Pereira was the other scorer.
