Man United's Rooney, Carrick, Schweinsteiger to return vs. Everton

Wayne Rooney, Michael Carrick and Bastian Schweinsteiger have all been passed fit to play for Manchester United at Everton on Saturday.

Neither Rooney, United's captain, nor vice-captain Carrick appeared for England during the international break.

Schweinsteiger missed Germany's two games, but manager Louis van Gaal revealed that they will be available at Goodison Park.

Marcos Rojo and Ander Herrera are also back in contention, although Van Gaal is unsure whether they will be able to play for 90 minutes at Goodison.

Ashley Young, however, is out with a calf problem.

Former Everton striker Rooney sat out England's Euro 2016 qualifier wins over Estonia and Lithuania with a minor hamstring injury but was always expected to be fit to face his former club.

"Wayne Rooney, I think he can play and Michael Carrick can play as well," Van Gaal told MUTV.

Carrick was also ruled out of both England matches with a groin problem, while fellow midfielder Schweinsteiger was a late withdrawal from Germany's lineup for the defeat to Republic of Ireland because of a groin strain.

He was then an unused substitute in Sunday's win over Georgia.

Herrera missed the defeat to Arsenal, while defender Rojo suffered a hamstring problem in September's win at Southampton.

His return allows United, who will be without Luke Shaw until at least March, to field a specialist left-back.

"They were injured and they have a rehabilitation period behind their back and everything went well," Van Gaal added.

"They are also fit to play -- maybe not 90 minutes, but you never know."

Phil Jones, who played the full 90 minutes for England in Lithuania, is also available, but fellow defender Paddy McNair has joined United's injury list.

McNair spent three days in hospital in Helsinki after suffering an abdominal strain in Northern Ireland's 1-1 draw with Finland on Sunday.
