Beckham hails Man United's Rooney along with Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar

David Beckham has named Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney among his favourite players alongside Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar.

Rooney, 29, is currently captain of both England and Premier League leaders United, and became the Three Lions' all-time top scorer after netting his 50th international goal to break Sir Bobby Charlton's record earlier in September.

Former England skipper Beckham admitted that Barcelona star Messi and Ballon d'Or holder Ronaldo are the two players he is most excited by watching, but says Rooney -- who has been criticised for his recent indifferent form -- has excelled this season.

"Apart from the normal suspects, you know, I'm going to have to say Leo [Messi] and Cristiano [Ronaldo]," Beckham said while opening a new adidas store at the Mall of the Emirates.

"I think [Alvaro] Morata is an exciting player and [Marco] Verratti for PSG. I played with him, he's such a great, talented player. And, of course, Neymar.

"I think there are so many great players out there, but to pick a few, I'd have to say them.

"On the England side, I think I'd have to say Wazza [Rooney]. Wayne is playing so well for United and he's had a good start to the season so we'll see."

Rooney has not ruled out a move to MLS in future, while Beckham is reportedly considering a move for the forward should his plans for a Miami franchise be in place for 2018.

Beckham won the Champions League trophy with United in 1999, and current Old Trafford boss Louis van Gaal believes success in the competition is a "realistic" goal for his side before the Dutch coach's contract expires in 2017.

The 40-year-old former LA Galaxy midfielder has backed United as potential winners this season, adding: "Who do I want to win is a different story to who I think is going to win... or maybe it's not actually! I'm going to have to say Man United, PSG or Milan (the Rossoneri did not qualify for this year's competition).

"One of those three I'd like to see win but when you're in the Champions League, you realise how important this competition is in football and it's one of the best competitions to actually play in and definitely to win."
