Victor Valdes has been named in Manchester United's Premier League squad, the day after he was omitted from their Champions League squad. Valdes, 33, thanked United fans on Thursday for their support and vowed to "work hard every day" amid uncertainty over his future at Old Trafford. Louis van Gaal said the goalkeeper is for sale after claiming he refused to play for United's reserve team but a move to Besiktas broke down. Van Gaal refused to take the three-time Champions League winner on their preseason tour of the United States, while Valdes does not have a squad number at Old Trafford. But while he is ineligible to play in Europe in the first half of the season, he will be allowed to appear in the Premier League and the Capital One Cup. Clubs are allowed to name 25 senior players plus an unlimited number who qualify as under-21s in their Premier League squads. Summer signings Anthony Martial and Memphis Depay both count as under-21s along with first-choice left-back Luke Shaw and youngsters James Wilson, Andreas Pereira and Paddy McNair. That has allowed United to name Valdes, along with right-back Guillermo Varela and striker Will Keane, in their contingent of senior players. Varela, who was David Moyes' first signing, is yet to make his competitive United debut while Keane has not played a first-team game for his parent club for more than three years, though he has appeared on loan for Wigan, QPR, Sheffield Wednesday and Preston. United squad: David De Gea, Sergio Romero, Sam Johnstone, Victor Valdes; Matteo Darmian, Antonio Valencia, Guillermo Varela, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind; Michael Carrick, Morgan Schneiderlin, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Ander Herrera; Juan Mata, Ashley Young, Marouane Fellaini, Jesse Lingard; Will Keane, Wayne Rooney.
