David De Gea on Manchester United Champions League squad list

Goalkeeper David De Gea has been included on Manchester United's Champions League squad list just days after his attempted transfer to Real Madrid fell through on deadline day.

The want-away Spaniard had not participated in any of United's Premier League and Champions League qualifying matches while the move was being negotiated, but will be an option for the UCL group stage going forward.

De Gea's move to Real Madrid stalled as completed paperwork failed to arrive at the Spanish league office before the transfer deadline on Monday.

The deal was also supposed to include Real goalkeeper Keylor Navas making a move to Manchester, but LFP said they didn't receive the necessary paperwork in time, and negated the proposed swap.

The 24-year-old has a place in Louis van Gaal's squad, however, while fellow goalkeeper Victor Valdes has been omitted from the list published by UEFA and United on Wednesday.

New £36 million recruit Anthony Martial is also included on a 26-player list, along with Van Gaal's other five summer signings in Sergio Romero, Matteo Darmian, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin and Memphis Depay.

United will face PSV Eindhoven in their first Champions League group stage game on Sept. 15.
