Adnan Januzaj says Sunderland link 'just rumours,' vows to stay at United

Adnan Januzaj has vowed to stay at Manchester United after scoring their winner at Aston Villa and insisted he does not want a move.

The 20-year-old had been linked with a loan move to Sunderland but manager Louis van Gaal said on Thursday that the Belgian was not for sale.

And then Januzaj, who was not even on the bench for United's opening-day win at Tottenham, started the match at Villa Park.

He scored the only goal, his first since Van Gaal's appointment, and then told Sky Sports: "I am happy here and I am going to fight for my place."

Talk of spending a season at the Stadium of Light was, he added, "just rumours."

Januzaj, who started seven league games last season, was replaced after an hour and admitted he is not at his sharpest just yet.

"I am feeling good after scoring a goal," he said. "My match fitness is not good because I have not had a game for some time. I hope to have more games in my legs and hopefully score more goals."

Daley Blind, who helped United start the season with back-to-back clean sheets after being selected as a centre-back, was pleased with the way they shut Villa out.

"We were really good in the shape, really compact and I think it was a really good team performance," he said. "They have crosses but not chances."
