David De Gea can emulate Schmeichel and Van der Sar - Man United coach

David De Gea can become as good as former Manchester United goalkeepers Peter Schmeichel and Edwin van der Sar, according to the club's goalkeeping coach Frans Hoek.

De Gea, 24, enjoyed an excellent season for United, recording 11 Premier League sheets with his form leading to links with a summer move to Real Madrid.

Hoek, a highly regarded goalkeeping coach, has been impressed with the Spain international's development and expects him to continue to improve.

"He is now at one of the biggest club in the world," Hoek told Man Utd Poland. "The moment you are playing at a high level there, you're great and if you continue to do that, then automatically you become one of the better ones in the world.

"He showed at a very young age -- he became 24 this season -- that he is able to do the job in all elements of the game, in construction, but also in defence.

"So nothing stands in his way to become one of the best like Schmeichel, like Van der Sar at United."

De Gea, who signed for United from Atletico Madrid for £18 million in 2011, is currently contracted at Old Trafford until 2016.
