Angel Di Maria, Marcos Rojo may miss U.S. tour, start of Man United season

Angel Di Maria and Marcos Rojo could miss Manchester United's preseason tour of the United States and the start of the 2015-16 campaign because of the Copa America.

United manager Louis van Gaal is willing to begin the new season without his two Argentina internationals.

The Dutchman believes both will need a break, and if Argentina reach the final in Chile -- which will be played on July 4 -- neither is likely to be involved when the Premier League kicks off again on Aug. 8.

Van Gaal hopes he will be starting with his £59.7 million record buy and the versatile defender, as he implied both will miss the preseason tour of the U.S. in July.

"They need also, as the other players do, holiday and when they are getting into the final, which is possible for Argentina, then they are late in our preparation [preseason training]," he told MUTV.

"That is not so good for Manchester United but I hope they shall play the final because that is great for them."

Di Maria and Rojo have both been named in Albiceleste manager Gerardo Martino's 30-man preliminary squad for the tournament in Chile.

The winger, who has won 59 caps, and the defender, who has represented his country 31 times, were both in Martino's first-choice XI as Argentina reached last summer's World Cup final.

United's Antonio Valencia is also in Ecuador's preliminary squad, although they are less likely winners and he could return to Old Trafford sooner.

However, Rafael da Silva was omitted by Brazil and Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez -- who is currently on loan at Real Madrid -- is not in the Mexico party.
