Louis van Gaal to tell Man United players their fate on Sunday or Monday

Louis van Gaal will tell some of his players if they form part of his plans for next season on Sunday or Monday as they face an anxious wait to discover if they have a future at Manchester United.

The Dutchman has already warned them that there might not be room at Old Trafford as he presses ahead with his ambitious rebuilding plans.

United have agreed to sign Memphis Depay from PSV Eindhoven for £25 million and are interested in World Cup winner Bastian Schweinsteiger.

They are likely to bring in a midfielder, a centre-back and a right-back and potentially a goalkeeper and a forward as well.

And United have a group of players whose contracts expire in 2016 and who are yet to be offered new deals, including Robin van Persie, Rafael da Silva and Jonny Evans.

Others' positions could also be endangered by new signings and Van Gaal said in a news conference: "I shall talk with them maybe [Sunday], we have a farewell drink so after the [Hull] match and I have the Monday to talk so I shall do that and you have to wait and see how these talks develop in staying or going away."

Van Gaal also suggested that Luke Shaw's big move from Southampton came too soon for him.

The left-back joined United at 18 and for £27 million before being limited to 20 appearances by injuries this season.

He has been omitted from England's under-21 squad for the summer's European Championships in the Czech Republic after talks between Van Gaal and the Dutchman feels Shaw will be the eventual beneficiary.

"The winner is Luke Shaw and why? We have to develop great talents, he is a great talent, only it was maybe too fast, this step from Southampton to Manchester United," Van Gaal said.

"The most important thing is that [England manager] Roy Hodgson, [England under-21 manager] Gareth Southgate, the medical department of Manchester United and the manager of Manchester United are agreed.

"We have to protect him so he can develop himself to that greater talent and also Roy Hodgson and also Gareth Southgate and also the manager of Manchester United shall benefit from that."
