Phil Jones sets up goal for Manchester United under-21s

Phil Jones set up a goal as he made his comeback for Manchester United's under-21 team.

The centre-back, who has missed United's last three games with an ankle injury, played for 62 minutes as Warren Joyce's league leaders beat Southampton 1-0 win.

Jones created United's goal with a long-range pass to striker Ashley Fletcher, who scored.

The England international could now make his first-team return against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday.

Jones was an unused substitute in United's 1-0 defeat to West Bromwich Albion as manager Louis van Gaal opted not to risk him.

United have lost their last three games when Jones has not featured, but won each of the last four he has started.

Adnan Januzaj, Tyler Blackett and Andreas Pereira all played the full 90 minutes for United's under-21s.

But Michael Carrick, Marcos Rojo and Jonny Evans, who all missed the Albion game with injuries, did not appear.
