Andreas Pereira signs new deal to stay with Manchester United

Manchester United have given a new contract to midfielder Andreas Pereira, tying him to Old Trafford until 2018.

The 19-year-old, whose current deal was set to run out in June, had reportedly drawn interest from Paris Saint-Germain. His new contract also includes an option for an additional year with United.

"I am delighted that Andreas has signed a new contract," United manager Louis van Gaal said in a statement. "Andreas has all the attributes to become an integral part of the first team; great natural talent coupled with a good appetite to learn.

"I am pleased with his progression so far this season and look forward to working with him to develop his talent even further."

Pereira made his senior debut for United in August, when he came on as a substitute in the embarrassing 4-0 League Cup defeat to MK Dons.

In March, he made his Premier League and Old Trafford debut as a sub against Tottenham. He has been shortlisted for United's under-21 Player of the Year award.

"I am pleased to have signed my new contract," Pereira said. "I would like to thank the manager for giving me the opportunity to join the first-team squad.

"I made my Premier League debut against Tottenham Hotspur and to play at Old Trafford in front of so many fans was a dream come true."

Pereira represented Belgium at the under-17 level but switched to Brazil -- the country of his parents' birth -- and has become an under-20 international for the Selecao.

"I am at the right club to continue my development as a player and to learn as much as I can," Pereira said. "I want to thank my family and God for the opportunity he has given me."
