Rooney and Van Persie: Louis van Gaal's will to win is 'incredible'

Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney have testified to Louis van Gaal's "incredible" will to win as his fellow Dutchman said the Manchester United manager is determined to claim every trophy available.

The two strikers have been appointed captain by Van Gaal, with Van Persie skippering his Netherlands side to third place at the 2014 World Cup and Rooney being granted the United armband in August.

And both are adamant that Van Gaal is a demanding character who will not countenance finishing on the losing side even in practice.

Van Persie told MUTV: "Working under him is tough. He asks for a lot of commitment and a lot of energy. I was excited. I still am. I can see the progress. He wants to win absolutely everything. He believes Manchester United is the biggest club in the world so you have to win."

Rooney believes Van Gaal's winning mentality gives his players a similar approach.

He explained: "He is 100 percent serious when it comes to training. His determination and dedication to the game is there at every training session. Every session means something. The team he is working with, he wants them to win.

"His determination, his will to win is incredible. I have seen it with other people but more on matchday. With him it is every day. It rubs off on the players."
