Radamel Falcao, Marcos Rojo back for Manchester United, Luke Shaw hurt

Luke Shaw has been ruled out for a "few weeks" with an ankle injury as Manchester United wait to see if he will play again in 2014, manager Louis van Gaal has confirmed.

But Radamel Falcao and Marcos Rojo are fit again and could feature against Hull on Saturday as United's injury problems ease.

Shaw underwent a scan after being taken off in the first half of United's 2-1 win at Arsenal on Saturday and Van Gaal said he had suffered no serious complications.

But the 27 million-pound signing faces a second spell on the sidelines this season after missing the opening month of the campaign with a hamstring injury.

Van Gaal said in his news conference: "Luke sustained an ankle ligament injury but with no serious complications and he will only be out for the next few weeks because of this."

Striker Falcao, who has only made three starts and scored just one goal since joining on loan from Monaco, has missed United's last four games with a calf problem but resumed training during the international break.

"So maybe Falcao can come back in the 18, maybe Rojo can come back in the 18," Van Gaal added. "That's it I think."

Rojo, who suffered a dislocated shoulder in the Manchester derby defeat, is also back in contention and gives Van Gaal the option of using him to deputise for Shaw.

With Daley Blind injured and Reece James loaned to Rotherham, Shaw's absence leaves the Dutchman with a choice of the Argentine, Tyler Blackett and Ashley Young, who has been used as a wing-back, on the left of his defence.

"Every player in my selection has to fight for his position," said Van Gaal in his news conference.

Van Gaal revealed he gave Blind, who has a knee problem, a break, explaining: "I gave him a holiday and he came back on Monday. He has to exercise and practise every day as an injured player has to train more than the fit players."

Meanwhile, Jonny Evans made his comeback for United's reserves on Tuesday in a 5-0 win over Blackburn after two months out with an ankle injury and Rafael da Silva, who has had a calf problem, has returned to training but Phil Jones, who has had shin splits, is still out.
