Falcao tried to lure new Manchester United teammate Di Maria to Monaco

Radamel Falcao said he is delighted to link up with Angel Di Maria at Manchester United after trying to tempt the Argentina international into joining him at Monaco 12 months ago.

The Colombia international Falcao signed for Louis van Gaal's side on deadline day on a season-long loan deal that will cost United six million pounds.

Di Maria had already signed for a British record 57.9 million-pound fee as the club spent 153 million pounds this summer to rebuild the squad following a disappointing 2013-14 campaign.

But striker Falcao revealed that he had hoped to play alongside the winger last season, and tried to persuade him to leave Real Madrid 12 months earlier.

"He's a key player, compliments are short in order to describe him," he told Fox Sports. "When I was at Monaco I tried to get him to join me there."

Di Maria scored one goal and played a part in three more as United beat QPR 4-0 on Sunday, with Falcao making his debut as a substitute.

Meanwhile, Jonny Evans has praised United's four other new signings, telling United Review: "Looking at our new defenders, Marcos Rojo and Luke Shaw, I've been really impressed.

"I watched Marcos at the World Cup and thought he was excellent for Argentina whether he played at left-back or left wing-back, and he can play centre-back too. I had the chance to work with Luke in preseason and there is no doubt he is going to be the best left-back in the world."

Midfielders Daley Blind and Ander Herrera are United's other two summer additions, and Evans added: "I watched Daley in the World Cup and he was very impressive. The manager knows him well and he's come through the Ajax youth system, which is something the manager had a lot of input into so he'll understand the manager's way of playing really well.

"Ander has settled in brilliantly. He's a great lad and the way he played in preseason showed just what a good player he's going to be."
