Wayne Rooney believes Manchester United have made a "real statement of intent" by securing a deadline day loan move for Radamel Falcao, and says the striker will be a "fantastic signing" for the club.

United pulled off one of the shocks of the transfer window on deadline day by completing the signing of the Colombia international from Monaco on a season-long loan deal.
Louis van Gaal's side have the option to make Falcao's move from the Ligue 1 club permanent, giving the United boss an enviable array of attacking talent to choose from.
It raises questions as to how the former Netherlands coach will juggle his options throughout the season -- a subject Rooney was not keen to talk about, preferring to focus on the impact the signing will have at Old Trafford.
"I obviously don't know how it could affect my role, that is something you'd have to ask Louis van Gaal," the England stiker said at a news conference on Tuesday.
"But I think it is a fantastic signing, he is one of the best players in the world. It is a real sign of intent from Manchester United and an exciting signing for us.''
Falcao's loan capped a busy end to the transfer window for United, who saw Danny Welbeck depart for Arsenal in a reported 16 million-pound deal with Shinji Kagawa and Tom Lawrence also leaving on permanent deals to Borussia Dortmund and Leicester respectively.
Javier Hernandez moved to Real Madrid on loan, while Nick Powell and Michael Keane were given temporary moves to Leicester and Burnley -- though Daley Blind moved to Old Trafford in a 14 million-pound deal to join fellow new recruits Angel Di Maria, Ander Herrera, Marcos Rojo and Luke Shaw as United spent a record 153 million pounds this summer.
Earlier departures in the transfer window saw Nani and Wilfried Zaha leave on loan, with Alexander Buttner, Patrice Evra and Bebe leaving the club permanently.
