Man United in on Di Maria, PSG out

Paris Saint-Germain's long-mooted purchase of Angel Di Maria is now in significant doubt, potentially leaving the way much more open for Manchester United and newly-interested Monaco, sources have stated.

The French champions are understood to have deep reservations about meeting Real Madrid's valuation of the Argentine. Now PSG are seriously considering ending their interest altogether, as they continue to try and balance the demands of financial fair play.

Summer transfer window roundup

- Premier League: Team-by-team ins and outs
- Transfer Centre: All the done deals
- Marcotti: Mind-boggling transfers
- Delaney: What did we learn on deadline day?
- Horncastle: European transfer grades
- Smith: Transfers more important than the game?
- Macintosh: We worship goals, not balance sheets

Di Maria's first choice has always been Paris Saint-Germain so he retains hope of a move there, but is open to joining either United or Monaco. The latter's sway is somewhat helped by their participation in the Champions League.

Due to a new relative frugality at Monaco as a consequence of that, however, it is suddenly possible that United could outbid them. At the same time, it seems none of the three clubs are willing to rise to Real's valuation of around 60 million pounds.

That in itself cold greatly weaken the Spanish club's bargaining power, and force them to lower the price. Real remain extremely keen to sell Di Maria, due to their own economic requirements, and the fact they have again spent so much this summer, most conspicuously on Monaco's James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos of Bayern Munich.
