Manchester City set for Aguero, De Bruyne fitness boost against Everton

MANCHESTER, England -- Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne could return for Manchester City's Premier League clash with Everton after suffering no pain on their return to first team training.

Aguero has missed City's last four games with an adductor problem while De Bruyne has played only five times in all competitions this season after suffering two injury setbacks.

City are set to have one last training session on Friday afternoon before a final decision is made on them and John Stones, who suffered a slight knee injury in their 2-1 Champions League win over Hoffenheim on Wednesday.

"Sergio did the last two training sessions with the team," Pep Guardiola told a news conference. "He has no pain but after we are going to decide.

"Kevin is the same as Sergio. No pain, so we will see [if he plays tomorrow].

"Yesterday [Stones] was in treatment, today we train at 4 p.m. and we'll see how they feel, when you have just 60 hours to recover between the games, we will see."

Guardiola reiterated that City will make no signings in the January transfer window despite being linked with a move for Leicester City defender Ben Chilwell.

City are short at left-back with Benjamin Mendy ruled out until around February, but Guardiola is not thinking about signing a replacement.

"In January, we are not going to sign anyone," he said.

Guardiola's side have the rarity of going into a Premier League match second in the table, having fallen a point behind Liverpool following last weekend's defeat at Chelsea.

The Spaniard has not beaten Everton in their previous two clashes at the Etihad Stadium and although Marco Silva's side have won just once away this season, they have impressed, particularly at Anfield when they were only beaten by a stoppage time winner.

"I would say that in both [the previous] games we played top, especially the first one, we played really good," Guardiola said.

"It's another game, Everton have changed their team completely, Sigurdsson, Mina, Digne, they're a top side and I'm impressed how well they do. It's tough after the Champions League, the players were so tired and we'll see how we do.

"Not just against Liverpool, [they played well against] Chelsea as well. Marco's teams are always well-organised.

"We need to attack them better, more freely and hopefully the quality of our players make a difference."
