Ex-Tottenham defender Kyle Walker on Prem title: Grass greener at Man City

Kyle Walker claimed his first Premier League title on Sunday and now the Manchester City defender wants even more.

The England international, who joined City from Tottenham in the summer, has played a pivotal role in his new club securing the title with five games of the season remaining.

City are on schedule to potentially break a number of records, including most points and most goals, but he says they won't be considered a great team until they win a number of Premier League trophies.

"To be competing in the Premier League since I was 19, and to play all the games I played in the Premier League, to not win the Premier League, it was a bit devastating for me not to have won it with Tottenham," the 27-year-old told reporters.

"So to come here and now in my first season, it's fantastic for me. You always say: 'Is the grass greener on the other side?' and it looks that way.

"We need to continue. We can't just stop at one Premier League title if we go on and do that. It needs to be a number of years before we can be regarded as one of the top teams ever to have played in the Premier League.

"We have the youth in the squad and the hunger to go on and do big things."

Walker spent eight years at Tottenham and it was ironic that Saturday's 3-1 win over his old club, coupled with Manchester United's shock home defeat to West Brom, secured the title.

It came at the end of a difficult week in which City were eliminated from the Champions League by Liverpool and lost the Manchester derby at home to United in a run of three successive defeats.

"That's the most pleasing thing about [the win over Spurs]," Walker said. "We've had probably the toughest period, definitely in my career at the club. We've gone from doing so well in all competitions to take three losses, and sometimes it felt like it was a relegation battle in there with the mood.

"We're all winners and we want to win and in them games, unfortunately, we didn't. But we put that right. That shows the character and the belief in the standard of players in the dressing room.

"It's been a long season, with a lot of games in a lot of competitions. It was probably a feeling of relief after what's happened in the last week, which is understandable.

"But it's great character, not just from the players but from the management staff as well, to pick us up and get us where we needed to be, winning three points."
