Sergio Aguero deserves to be Man City's top goalscorer - Gabriel Jesus

Gabriel Jesus will do everything to help Sergio Aguero become Manchester City's greatest ever goalscorer as soon as possible.

Aguero equalled a 78-year club record on Saturday with a penalty in the 3-0 win over Burnley that saw him move alongside Eric Brook with 177 goals.

He can break that record with a goal in the League Cup clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday night and despite the pair vying for the striker starting role, Gabriel can't wait for the Argentinian to reach the landmark.

"It's very important in a player's career, especially for a striker, to score a lot of goals. I support him and I hope he can beat the record as soon as possible. He deserves to become the top scorer of this club," the 20-year-old said.

"I get on with Sergio very well. He's an amazing guy. All of us know what type of player he is. He's a fantastic person and I'm a fan of his.

"It's very good to play with him. When you have a good relationship off the pitch, it's easier to bring it on to the pitch. That's what we have.

"We help each other and that helps Manchester City. We both defend the shirt of this club, so we pull together on the pitch, the same way we get along off the pitch."

A victory against Wolves would also make it a club record 12 successive wins. Gabriel has never been involved in a defeat since he completed a move to City in January 2017.

In fact the striker hasn't tasted defeat -- including with the national team -- since former club Palmerias lost to Santos on their way to the Brazilian championship on Oct. 29, nearly 12 months ago.

"I'm very happy to have been all this time without losing a game. But it's not only me, it's thanks to the teams and teammates I have played with, such as Palmeiras, the Brazilian national team and now Manchester City," he added.

"I'm very happy for achieving that milestone of a whole year without a defeat. But I must keep working hard in the training sessions and keep performing well in the games."

Gabriel added he is relishing working under "winner'' Guardiola having recovered from what he describes as "the worst moment'' of his career to date, when he broke his metatarsal and was sidelined for two months after just five matches last season.

He told Premier League Productions: "I think the worst moment of my career so far was the injury I had here.

"But it didn't knock me down. I had everybody's support, from my family, everyone at Manchester City. That helped me a lot to overcome the injury.

"Pep is a winner. I'm very happy to have the opportunity to be coached by a great manager and a great person. I'm very proud to be part of his team and he can teach me a lot of things.

"I'm going to give my best to help the team to be able to lift the Premier League trophy.

"We are going to try to keep the momentum, win games and fight for trophies until the end of the season.''
