Man City's Vincent Kompany happy to be seen as Premier League favourites

BRIGHTON -- Vincent Kompany is happy for Manchester City to take on the added pressure of being favourites for the Premier League title.

City have been tipped to be champions by plenty of ex-players and pundits, and started the season with a 2-0 win at Brighton while some of their rivals dropped points.

Kompany says he's happy to be at a team regarded as the best in England and that they need now to justify the confidence put in them.

"That is the whole reason why we are at the club -- to have expectations," he told reporters.

"Everything comes and goes with victories and results. But there is no other place that I would rather be than in the position of where you have to make it happen every single week.

"We will work hard this week to see if there are things that we can improve and that drive to always improve is crucial to my career anyway."

Kompany has twice lifted the Premier League trophy as the City captain when they won in 2012 under Roberto Mancini and two years later under Manuel Pellegrini.

The 31-year-old is full of praise for those title-winning squads and says the current side needs to win something before they can be compared.

"The first team in played in the first league we won it was all about big personalities, character and tough guys in the team. It was game-deciding people," he said.

"This team is more about a flow to it, there is coordination, the system is every meticulous. So we will see.

"This team still needs to win something but my feeling is that we have a lot more tools we can use. Like, it was difficult for us to play in a back-three back in the day just because of the personnel we had.

"Here it is just as easy for us to switch from a back-three to a back-four and so on. That is the strength of the team the fact that we just can adapt to so many ways."
