Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola: We need to win right now

MANCHESTER -- Pep Guardiola says it is important that Manchester City put an end to their winless streak as soon as possible.

City are top of the Premier League but travel to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday without a victory in their last six games. It represents the worst run of Guardiola's managerial career after he went five matches without a win at Barcelona.

And while the Spaniard isn't concerned about City's performances he admitted he is worried about the run of results.

"I don't remember what I thought when I was five games in Barcelona without winning. I [probably thought] the same as right now, you have to win right now," he told a news conference.

"For the mind of the players -- especially for them because they didn't play any game without intention, without passion, without until the last minute they fight. We are in that period like it is.

"Many circumstances didn't help. First of all our performance was not good enough to win the games. But many decisions and situations in the game didn't help and they influence our head and we have to change it as soon as possible. We have to not give up.

"Maybe this situation will make us stronger for the future. I'm pretty sure of that. For the next period, not just this season but the next season as well. Maybe we will learn from that and be stronger."

Guardiola made nine changes for the midweek defeat to Manchester United -- resting most of his key players while Kevin De Bruyne and Pablo Zabaleta missed out through injury. Both have minor knocks but face late fitness tests ahead of the trip to The Hawthorns.

"They are getting better," he said. "Today I am going to see them. Right now I can't answer [if they will be available], I'm sorry. They are much better but I don't know exactly if they are going to play tomorrow against West Brom."

Vincent Kompany is unlikely to be involved after going off after half-time in the 1-0 defeat to United with fatigue.

"Vincent didn't play the second half because he was tired. He informed us that he could not play the second half, that was the reason why," Guardiola added. "We want to take care and save all the players. Vincent knows his history of the last two years. We decided after what happened at Swansea to try to avoid it again."
