Aleksandar Kolarov relaxed over Manchester City future

GLASGOW -- Manchester City defender Aleksandar Kolarov says he remains relaxed about his future despite entering the final year of his contract.

The 30-year-old has been a revelation for City this season, switching from left-back to the centre of defence as Pep Guardiola's side won their opening 10 games of the season.

Guardiola hinted he would be happy to offer him a new deal at a news conference last week and Kolarov says he is happy to stay while the club is competing for trophies.

"It's just September, I am here seven years," Kolarov told a news conference ahead of City's Champions League clash with Celtic on Wednesday.

"I am 30 years old and we will see, but I want to say I am enjoying playing in this club and this club is part of my life already, so we will see what will happen.

"If we win some things, it's not going to be a problem for me to sign a new contract."

Kolarov was linked with a move away to Besiktas in the summer, but the Serbian insists he never considered a move away from the Etihad.

"That was in the paper -- I never spoke with anyone at Man City who said I have to leave," he added.

"I am doing my best. I did not have to prove to the papers or anyone what I'm doing.

"I'm confident in my game and I know how much work I am doing everyday on my game.

"At the moment, all the players are playing well. I am part of the team and I never had any doubt about staying. It was just in the paper because in the summer it is a long time without football and they have to write something."

Kolarov added that he has enjoyed the switch to the centre of defence despite never playing in that position at any point in his career before.

"I am enjoying playing centre-back because it is not like typical defender -- we are more involved in our play," he said. "So for me it is comfortable.

"When [Pep] came, he put me at central defender and I am just trying to do what he wants from me.

"I am enjoying playing as a central defender and I am involved in the play and everything is going good, but the season is very long."
