Manchester City to stay in Wales for Swansea double-header

Manchester City will stay and train in South Wales for their double-header with Swansea City thanks to the help of the Football Association of Wales (FAW).

Pep Guardiola's squad made the 400-mile journey to Wales on Tuesday night ahead of their EFL Cup third-round clash with Swansea at the Liberty Stadium on Wednesday.

And the team will stay close by until Saturday when the two sides meet again in the Premier League -- training at the FAW's National Football Development Centre at Dragon Park in midweek.

The £5 million state-of-the-art complex in Newport, where the Wales national team train ahead of international matches, has been made available for City to help them cut down on travelling, a source has told ESPN FC.

City assistant coach Mikel Arteta has a good relationship with the FAW after completing his coaching badges at Dragon Park with Osian Roberts -- the assistant to Wales boss Chris Coleman.

Guardiola wanted his side to stay close by as they enter a busy period of important games with Celtic away in the Champions League in seven days followed shortly after by a Premier League trip to Tottenham Hotspur.

The City boss told a news conference: "We play at night on the Wednesday. We are going to finish late, if we come back here on the Thursday for regeneration and then on the Friday morning, we have to come back again.

"I would prefer to be there for the regeneration because this week is so important for us. We have two Premier League away games and we have a crucial game in the Champions League in Glasgow.

"I want us to have a good regeneration, and train well, prepare as well as possible for our two games in Swansea, for our game in the Champions League and for Tottenham away."

Guardiola said he will take his entire squad with him, including Sergio Aguero, who is banned for the cup tie but will be available for the Premier League clash at the weekend.

David Silva will also travel but will miss the cup game as he continues to recover from a knock that has kept him out of City's last two games.

City skipper Vincent Kompany could make his first appearance in four months, while several academy players have also travelled with the squad.
