Man City's Angelino hopes China tour has put him in Guardiola thoughts

SHENZHEN, CHINA -- Manchester City defender Angelino hopes he has done enough to impress Pep Guardiola on the club's tour of China.

Angelino, 19 played another impressive 45 minutes in City's International Champions Cup penalty shootout victory over Borussia Dortmund on Thursday.

He also stood out in Guardiola's first game in charge -- the 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich -- and hopes to have made the most of his opportunity with the first team, after several players were given more time off in preseason because of Copa America and Euro 2016 commitments.

"I think it's been going really well, I'm really pleased with my performance in the last few games," the Spaniard told reporters.

"I will always be thankful to Pep and his staff for giving me this chance on the tour, I'm just really enjoying the chances I get and hopefully I get some more.

"I'm really looking forward to [the season]. Hopefully I'll get the chance to break into the first team. I'm still thankful to the staff and my teammates who have helped get me here."

Angelino spent half a season on loan at sister club New York City FC before returning to Manchester and making his debut in the FA Cup 4-0 victory over Aston Villa in January.

Despite there being limited game time under previous manager Manuel Pellegrini, the left-back has no regrets about returning to City and will be patient for an opportunity.

"I think it helped me a lot to come back to City but I didn't go [to New York] just to get experience. I think I gave it [my] all over there too, but obviously the main focus for me was coming back to City and breaking into the first team.

"I think the boss we had, gave many chances to the young players and I think he did the right thing. I think the best moment for me was to wait and I think this year could be my year."

Prior to joining City, the 19-year-old defender was on the books of Luis Calvo Sanz and Deportivo La Coruna back in his native country.
