Manchester City hope Vincent Kompany will return at Chelsea

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini hopes captain Vincent Kompany will be back for the weekend's trip to Chelsea -- but said he will not rush his return from his latest calf injury.

Kompany had a watching brief on Tuesday as City reached the Champions League semifinals for the first time in their history when Kevin De Bruyne's goal wrapped up a 3-2 aggregate win over Paris Saint-Germain.

The defender missed out with the latest in a long line of calf-related injury problems, sustained in the last-16 clash with Dynamo Kiev.

However, the 30-year-old is back in training and Pellegrini said he could be in the team at Stamford Bridge on Saturday or, failing that, at Newcastle on Tuesday.

"I hope that Vincent can play on Saturday or on Tuesday," the manager added. "Now it is very important to do things with the Champions League in mind.

"We are waiting for the draw, but now we have to play three games in the Premier League.

"For me, it is very important to try and qualify for the Champions League for next year. So we will see in which of those games Vincent will return to the team."

Meanwhile, he said Yaya Toure, who made a late substitute appearance against PSG, had not been risked from the start because "it was around 15 days since the last game he played against Manchester United."

"I think that it was more important to have him fresh for the last I don't know how many minutes," he said. "I think that the team was playing very well until the end."
