Paris attacks put setbacks into perspective - Man City's Gael Clichy

Gael Clichy says the terror attacks in Paris put his injury problems into perspective after missing the first three months of the season for Manchester City.

Clichy, 30, revealed he had surgery on a knee problem, which kept him out of action until late November.

But shortly before his comeback, the French capital -- including national stadium the Stade de France -- was targeted as part of a series of coordinated attacks that left 130 people dead.

Clichy, 30, told the Manchester Evening News: "When you look at the events in Paris a few weeks ago it makes you realise that being injured for nine weeks is not the end of the world. You just carry on and try to get fit as quickly as you can.

"I was at home with my family when my friend contacted me and told me what had happened.

"At first I didn't really understand what he was saying so I had to just sit in front of the TV watching the news and that's how it was for so many people for the next three weeks.

"It puts everything into perspective because there are some days when you have a bad game and don't want to talk to anyone or go out.

"But when you see things like that you realise football is only a game and losing a match or being injured doesn't really matter."

Clichy has started just two Premier League games this season but could be set for an extended run in the side after City's other left-back Aleksandar Kolarov picked up a calf injury in the 4-0 victory over Crystal Palace.

"The injury and recovery period lasted about nine weeks and I'm feeling much better now," he added. "I feel good on the pitch and I'm looking forward to the remainder of the season."

Meanwhile, midfielder Fernandinho has returned to City training. The Brazilian midfielder has been a standout performer for City this season but has missed their last three games through injury.
