Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne eager to link with David Silva

Kevin De Bruyne is relishing the chance to finally link up with David Silva in the Manchester City team.

Spanish international Silva has returned to fitness and, after nine games out with an ankle injury, came off the bench in Saturday's 3-1 win over Southampton.

De Bruyne, who was signed from Wolfsburg over the summer, has only started two matches alongside the World Cup winner since his £54 million move from the Bundesliga side, but is confident the two will gel.

"We didn't play that much together, and maybe two [games] but he's such a great player that it's easy to play together with him," he said.

De Bruyne, who has scored seven goals in his brief City career, believes it will be a case of opposites attracting when he and Silva can finally team up.

"Everybody has his own style so I think we play almost at the same position but we are very different players so it's better to have different players who play together than to have all the same," he explained.

"I am more direct than him. He can keep the ball a little bit more than me so the two together that's an advantage, we can switch different things."

De Bruyne's Belgium teammate Vincent Kompany is another City player who has been sidelined and has sat out their last three games with a calf problem.

The midfielder believes Kompany is crucial to City's fortunes, adding: "He is already a long time here and everybody respects him and he's the leader. We have two of four centre-backs injured so that's not an advantage for us but I'm hopeful both will come back soon and they will help us."
