Joe Hart can be Manchester City and England captain - Manuel Pellegrini

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has backed Joe Hart to one day become club and England captain.

The Chilean boss, on the heels of Saturday's 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Liverpool, hailed the England international keeper's character, adding that Hart had the personality to wear the City and Three Lions armband in the future.

"Joe has lots of personality to be a captain -- not only for England but also for City," Pellegrini said on Sunday.

"He has improved a lot. It is because he likes to work, he is a player that knows he has important mistakes to improve on."

While the City No. 1 still must continue to grow his game, Pellegrini believes, with the proper improvements, he can be considered among the best goalkeepers in world football.

"Joe has a lot of things to improve," Pellegrini said.

"But I hope that when he makes some improvements, he will be one of the best in the world."
