Manuel Pellegrini pleased with Manchester City striker options

MANCHESTER -- Manuel Pellegrini has insisted he is happy with Manchester City's striking options, even though he only has one senior centre-forward option available for Saturday's game at Watford.

City have allowed Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic, who joined Roma and Inter Milan respectively, to leave this summer and have replaced neither.

Wilfried Bony will miss the Watford game after suffering a gash in his leg in training, which leaves Sergio Aguero as the only experienced striker available.

Youngsters Kelechi Iheanacho and Patrick Roberts are set to be on the bench against the promoted club, while Pellegrini also maintains winger Raheem Sterling can operate as a striker.

City have also signed Ruben Sobrino from Spanish second-division club Ponferradina but Pellegrini claims he does not need to buy further.

"No because we have Kelechi also, a very good striker," he said in a news conference. "He's a young player who needs an opportunity to demonstrate how he can play. I have a lot of trust in his performance. I don't think we need anybody else in that position."

City are trying to bring in Wolfsburg midfielder Kevin De Bruyne in a deal that will take their summer spending to around £150 million.

But while some say it gives them no excuse not to win the title, Pellegrini argued he did not complain last year, when City's buying power was limited by sanctions for failing UEFA's Financial Fair Play rules.

"Last season we had some restrictions but I didn't give any excuse not to win the title," he added.

"This team must try to win titles every year. It's not so easy because you have strong teams here in the Premier League and in the Champions League.

"But we must try to do it. The best way to at least try is to have a good squad. That's what we are trying to do now and we finish on Tuesday when the transfer window is closed."
