Stevan Jovetic left Man City because of injuries - Manuel Pellegrini

Manchester City chose to sell Stevan Jovetic because he was injured so often, manager Manuel Pellegrini has revealed.

Jovetic, 25, underwent a medical at Inter Milan on Tuesday after City agreed a £2 million loan fee with the Serie A club, who are then obliged to pay a further £10.25m if they want to purchase the striker.

The Montenegro international joined City for £22m from Fiorentina in 2013, but only started 11 league games in his two seasons at the Etihad Stadium as he struggled with hamstring problems.

City manager Pellegrini believes Jovetic's talent makes him one of the most gifted footballers he has encountered but concluded he could not rely on him.

"Unfortunately, Stevan had to go," Pellegrini told City's official website. "He's a very good player -- one of the best players I have seen -- but for him he had too many injuries and that's why he couldn't play too many games in a row.

"I wish him the best for the future and I'm sure he'll be a very important player for Inter."

Jovetic managed 11 goals in his City career but only made two substitute appearances in the final three months of last season and had been omitted from their Champions League squad for the knockout stages of the competition.
