Yaya Toure hopes Man City make more signings soon to boost title bid

Yaya Toure says he hopes Manchester City can sign new players quickly in order to boost their chances of regaining the Premier League title after a "quite disappointing" season.

City's only summer signing so far is 18-year-old Turkish striker Enes Unal, but they are interested in Juventus' Paul Pogba, Wolfsburg's Kevin de Bruyne and England international Raheem Sterling, who is refusing to go on Liverpool's preseason tour as he tries to force a move.

After a season in which Manuel Pellegrini's men finished nine points behind Chelsea and did not reach the last eight of any knockout competition, Toure told City's website: "I hope maybe in a couple of days new players come and make this club a top team next year and so something big for this club."

Vice-captain Toure has set his sights on achieving rather more this year, saying: "We have a lot of targets this year. The target this year is to make his club proud because last year was quite disappointing.

"I am looking forward, the manager is looking forward and the club is looking forward. We want to do something big this year.

"The club has been built to top this league and when we finish in second it is quite disappointing. We want to bounce back. This club don't have to be second or third. We always have to finish first.

"We know it will be difficult because we have opponents like Chelsea, Arsenal, even Liverpool can do it, [Manchester] United will do it. For us the main key is to try and regain the title this year. It will be difficult but we know we can do it."

Toure finished as the runner-up in the voting for the Footballer of the Year award in 2013-14, when he scored 24 goals, but he was criticised for his performances last season.

And after spending last summer playing at the World Cup, he felt he needed time off this year to regain his strength.

"I spent most of it relaxing to recharge all the batteries because after two or three years full of competition, I needed this break," he said.
