Manchester City leaves it late with George Evans winner to top Toronto FC

George Evans hit a late winner from long distance to give Manchester City a 1-0 win over Major League Soccer's Toronto FC in a friendly match played in Toronto.

Manchester City is coming off a second-place finish in the Premier League, which wrapped up competition last Sunday. City boss Manuel Pellegrini started a strong side against TFC that saw regulars David Silva, Vincent Kompany, Yaya Toure and Edin Dzeko, among others, take the field.

Toronto looked slightly overwhelmed in the first half, but managed to keep the score tied at 0-0. In the second 45 minutes as substitutes began to enter the game for both teams, Toronto had three legitimate chances to score with two turned away by goalkeeper Willy Caballero and one glancing off the left post

With just six minutes remaining in the match, the 20-year-old Evans made the most of his substitute opportunity and put one past TFC keeper Alex Bono.

The match was City's first of their North American tour, which is meant to continue Thursday in Texas vs. the Houston Dynamo before a Saturday date to watch sister-club New York City FC play the Dynamo in Yankee Stadium.
