Manuel Pellegrini promotes nine youth players for Man City tour

Manchester City are set to give some of their youngsters a chance to impress when they face Toronto FC and Houston Dynamo on their tour of North America this week.

City manager Manuel Pellegrini has promoted nine players from the club's junior ranks for the friendlies against Toronto on Wednesday and Dynamo on Thursday.

The Premier League side have taken a 28-man party across the Atlantic -- Frank Lampard, who will link up with New York City FC, is missing, as well as Argentina internationals Sergio Aguero, Pablo Zabaleta and Martin Demichelis, who have been granted time off to prepare for this summer's Copa America.

City could select five of the players who competed in last month's FA Youth Cup final -- a competition for under-18s -- which Chelsea won 5-2 on aggregate.

Left-back Angelino, right-back Pablo Maffeo and midfielders Manu Garcia, Brandon Barker and Bersant Celina are all in Pellegrini's group.

Four other members of Patrick Vieira's Elite Development Squad were also included -- forward Jose Angel Pozo, who scored on his first-team debut against Sheffield Wednesday in September, and midfielders George Evans, Olivier Ntcham and Seko Fofana, who spent some of the season on loan at Fulham.

James Milner, who is out of contract in the summer and has attracted offers from other clubs, could make his final appearance in a City shirt during the tour.
