Yaya Toure out of Manchester City's next 2 games, Kompany 'progressing'

MANCHESTER -- Yaya Toure is set to miss Manchester City's next two games with the hamstring injury he suffered in the 3-2 win over Aston Villa.

City's vice-captain, who was substituted at half-time against Villa, will sit out Sunday's trip to Tottenham and next week's clash with Queens Park Rangers.

But skipper Vincent Kompany is recovering from his thigh problem quicker than expected, and could be available for the Rangers game.

City had originally feared the Belgian's injury, which was suffered in the 4-2 defeat to Manchester United, would rule him out for the season, but he could be back in time to play in the last three games.

"Vincent is progressing," manager Manuel Pellegrini said in a news conference. "Maybe next week he can be available."

Toure's may not feature until City's penultimate game of the season, against Swansea, and Pellegrini added: "I think [he will be out for] at least one week more. We don't know how the player will improve but it will be difficult to play against QPR."

Left-back Gael Clichy, who has missed City's last two games, is back in contention as Stevan Jovetic is the only other player who will not be available for the trip to White Hart Lane.

City beat Tottenham 4-1 in October and Pellegrini is anticipating another entertaining clash on Sunday.

"Tottenham have good players and a good manager," he added. "They play always in an offensive way. They need also to qualify for the Europa League. We must try and be as near to the top of the table. We are two teams that play well and attack most of them. I hope we play a very good game for the fans."
